Global Expansion in Key Markets
BME is rapidly expanding its presence in key markets, including African countries, Canada, Australia, and Indonesia, through strategic partnerships. Managing Director Ralf Hennecke emphasises the significance of these markets.
“These markets are exciting for us as they boast high mineral exploration rates and a diverse range of batteries and other minerals which are important for future growth. This gives us the opportunity to highlight our differentiators such as our blasting technology and digital tools, as well as blasting products and our high level of technical service”.

Infrastructure Development to Serve Customers
BME has made significant progress by creating infrastructure in these markets, including building assembly plants for electronic and non-electric detonators in Canada. BME uses this infrastructure to better serve its customers, and showcase BME’s advanced blasting technology, digital tools, blasting products, and world-class technical services and support.
Tailoring the Approach to Each Market
BME understands the need to tailor the approach to each market’s specific conditions. In Indonesia, BME partners with MNK, a top explosives producer, to supply blasting equipment for different mineral sectors.
In Australia, BME has conducted successful trials of electronic detonators and is building infrastructure in both the eastern and western parts of the country.
Non-nitrous technology through partnerships for attaining ESG Goals
One notable partnership BME has formed is withSwedish-based Hypex Bio, focusing on nitrate-free emulsions that support the company’s sustainability ambitions. The use of hydrogen peroxide in emulsions is considered groundbreaking in the industry and aligns with BME’s global innovation efforts, reducing carbon emissions by 90%. This partnership helps BME’s customers achieve their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
Environmental Responsibility and Lowering Risks
BME’s dual-salt emulsions are effective in helping mines reduce greenhouse gas emissions during blasts, aiding in their decarbonisation targets. Using lower amounts of ammonia in BME’s emulsions reduces the risk of environmental contamination, which is a concern in the mining industry.
Collaboration for Technological Advancement
While BME has in-house digital expertise, the company actively seeks partnerships to leverage cutting-edge technologies. Collaborations in automation and digital solutions are essential as more mining companies aim to automate their emulsion trucks. BME’s mobile manufacturing units now include innovative smart features. It uses solutions such as Xplolog and Xplocharge for real-time monitoring, data capture, and analysis. This level of precision enhances emulsion pumping into blast holes, resulting in cost savings and increased efficiency.
“Our global expansion is supported by the enabling ecosystem that we provide for customers, to achieve quality blasts which reduce downstream costs while enhancing energy efficiency. This aligns with our customers’ sustainability goals while ensuring optimal productivity.”
Ralf Hennecke, BME Managing Director of BME
Driving Optimal Productivity and ESG Targets
BME is expanding globally and remains committed to providing customers with high-quality blasts that help reduce costs and improve energy efficiency. BME is already working on its next generation of electronic detonators, to improve blast results and productivity in line with ESG targets.
